"Starlight" lyrics Slash and Myles Kennedy
Starlight is the second song on Slash's solo album that Myles Kennedy features on. The first is Back from Cali.
“This particular song was the one I thought was the best on the record in terms of the way it was arranged and the music and everything. I couldn’t figure out who would be right vocalist and all of a sudden Myles Kennedy just popped into my head. I contacted him and I sent him the song, and a couple of days later he sent me back a demo of the lyrics and vocals he’d written, and it was fucking amazing. I was really excited to record that.”
"I wanted to get Jack White, but he didn't want to sing. He said I'll play drums, I'll play guitar, but I don't wanna sing. He was one guy that I wanted to work with. Pretty much everyone else that I went after I managed to get. It turned out to probably be a blessing because Myles really fit that song. Jack would've fit it too but it would have been a different kind of a trip.”
"Starlight" lyrics
In the distance
Light years from tomorrow
But far beyond yesterday
She is watching
Heart aching with sorrow
She is broken, as she waits
Hoping that when all is said and done, we learn to love and be as one
Oh Starlight
Don’t you cry we’re gonna make it right
Before tomorrow
Oh Starlight
Don’t you cry we’re going to find a place where we belong (where we belong)
And so you know
You’ll never shine alone
There are shadows sleeping on the horizon
That leaves us scared and so afraid
As the fall out of a world divided
It brings her tears and so much pain
And so we take cover from the dark
Hoping to find where we can start
Oh Starlight
Don’t you cry we’re gonna make it right
Before tomorrow
Oh Starlight
Don’t you cry we’re going to find a place where we belong (where we belong)
And so you know
You’ll never shine alone
Starlight, we’ll find a place where we belong (where we belong)
You will see as the mountains fall and turn to dust
That there’s one thing that won’t change
I believe there’s something within each of us that always stays
That will always remain as long as love never fades
She is watching, heart aching with sorrow
She is broken, as she waits
Check out the lyrics to Beautiful Dangerous with Fergie on vocals
Nothing do with any thing:
could be a little more refined - can anyone add to the lyrics?
ReplyDeleteThe first verse should be:
ReplyDeleteIn a distance, like years from tomorrow
far beyond - yesterday
she is watching, heart-aching with sorrow
She is broken - she waits
hoping when all is said and done, we'll learn to love and be as one
Bridge correction: I've listened to it closely. It should be:
ReplyDeleteYou will see as the mountains fall and turn to dust
That there’s one thing that won't change
I believe there is something within each of us that always stays
That will always remain as long as love never fades
Riddled with innaccuracies but its a start, thanks.

Lot's of critisism on the lyrics but no compliments on the song itself! Play it again and listen to the music, not the lyrics! You'll see that Slash and Myles Kennedy are a match made in heaven! They're both about classic mainstream hard-rock, technical quality and sentimental lyrics... Damn, just think what they'd make of Desperado! Everyone is talking about Slash and Chris Cornell, but for me Slash and Myles Kennedy is the most exiting combination. Isn't he the one touring with Slash?
ReplyDelete@ David You said it. I heard this song for the first time yesterday and it's been on repeat since then. It's my new new anthem...
ReplyDelete@DAVID Myles is my favorite rock singer maybe ever. He can shred on guitar and just has "it". You are exactly right, listen to the beautiful intro and realize how guitar was meant to be played. Myles and Slash might have started something amazing. Slash is appearing on Myles' solo CD as well. We can only hope they keep playing together for many years to come.
ReplyDelete@EVERYONE---Stop having fantasies of myles and slash....he is mark tremonti's for ever and that better not change!ALTER BRIDGE!yes ALTER BRIDGE HO
ReplyDeletebut i HAVE GOT to hand it to slash! Those two songs are freaking rediculously perfect. damn i love it
dude, seriously? alter bridge? what alter bridge has done and the musical perfection that has come from slash and myles kennedy doesn't even compare! and i have to agree that desperado from them would be AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic year for all MK-lovers. :))))) First this, later in the year the new AB album, and, hopefully, we will not have to wait too long for his solo-album. What an amazing guy. I am so looking forward seeing him on the slash and AB concerts here in Berlin. Myles rules...
ReplyDelete"dude, seriously? alter bridge? what alter bridge has done and the musical perfection that has come from slash and myles kennedy doesn't even compare!"
ReplyDeleteSlash is awesome. But have you ever heard Blackbird by Alter Bridge?! Probably one of the most epic songs ever written.
Ummm "Blackbird" the album is great. "Blackbird" the song, sucks. HTH
ReplyDeletetrashice@hotmail.com says it rocks how it is..
ReplyDeletenot sure it sent, on da wine,it had to be myles, hadnt hurd of u till the slash album, but your a better choice,by far...well im not anom.... anymore....
ReplyDeleteanyway, the album "BLACKBIRD"is a killer of a album.hope to shake your hand oneday.
ReplyDeletegreat post
ReplyDeleteslash at graspop was amazing, one of the best fucking rock-concerts ever.I also think that slash should be recording something with paul cook and steve jones. never mind the roses, here's rock&roll
ReplyDeleteSlash and Myles are a match made in heaven. I absolutely agree with you, Thanks for this amazing song. Ali
ReplyDeleteJust watched Slash and Myles do acoustic "Starlight" on Max sessions,Absolutely amazingly beautiful Lyrics,Vocals,& of course guitar. BRILLIANT +++ FI
ReplyDeleteI feel like the 2nd verse should be, "there are shadows "Steep" in the horizon..."
ReplyDeletealter bridge is fuzzy foofoo shit compared to what myles and slash do together.something about playing with slash brings more out of myles vocals.its a whole other level.
ReplyDelete^Fail
ReplyDeleteIn fact Alter Bridge is much better
Myles is amazing in both Alter Bridge and with Slash. His stuff with slash is definitly better that SOME of his alter bridge stuff, but as some of you have said, you just can't compare to blackbird!
ReplyDeleteThough, to be honest, I don't think i've ever heard anything from Myles that didn't impress me.
Slash said that he tried to make different songs but the main theme is rock n roll. Listen to the lyrics`s meaning closely.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I heard the song by Slash and Myles Kennedy “Starlight” was when I had turned on Channel 230 on DirecTV’s the Audience channel I couldn’t believe what a beautiful song that was! I had to immediately get on the internet and try and find it so I could listen to it over and over …. And I had found it and I wanted to cry!!!!!! It was a completely different version than I had heard. Slash was playing an acoustic guitar and Myles’ voice wasn’t screeching and high during the chorus!!!!!! I was so blown away! Let me tell you, you all really need to turn to the Audience channel on DirecTV 230 and when you hear that version, you will not want to hear it done any other way! I GUARANTEE IT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe original version is shit compared to the version on The Audience channel 230 on DirecTV. YOU WILL COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT IN MY PREVIOUS BLOG. The original version compared to the version on DirecTV...hmmmm you choose!!!!!
